Maximum Expo-sure: No, it's not the newest action film; it's the opening of the even more exiting and thrill-packed Public Health Expo! The Expo opens its doors right after the Opening Session at 2 p.m. in Moscone Convention Center South Halls A/B/C. And don't forget to stop by APHA's Get Ready booth to see the cuddly winners of the Cat Preparedness Photo Contest and pick up a free Get Ready 2013 calendar, which features the feline contest winners. Plus, you can learn more about the Set Your Clocks, Check Your Stocks campaign, which urges folks to update their emergency stockpiles when daylight saving time ends on Nov. 4.
Is it near you?: The flu, that is. In celebration of the national launch of the Flu Near You tool, Skoll Global Threats Fund, HealthMap and APHA are hosting a screening of the film "Contagion" at the historic Castro Theatre on Sunday night at 6:45 p.m. Come for the film and stay for a town hall discussion on pandemic preparedness with local public health officials, students, emergency responders and other experts. Reserve your free tickets here. (APHA's not providing transportation to the event. But for info on public transit and directions to the Castro Theatre, click here.)
The faces behind the tweets: Curious who's behind your favorite Twitter accounts, including APHA's wildly popular and always informative @PublicHealth (which has more than 210,000 followers!)? Check out Sunday night's APHA Social Media TweetUp from 7 to 9 p.m. at the House of Shields, 39 New Montgomery Street. Click here for more info.
Breakfast with Dr. B: Donate to APHA Oct. 27–31 and win a private breakfast with APHA's Dr. Georges Benjamin at next year's APHA Annual Meeting in Boston. Winners announced in November!
